What does "arresting his progres" below mean?
picaresque \pi-keh-RESK\ (adjective) - Pertaining to the life of an adventurous rogue, usually of low origin, who uses his wits to overcome obstacles and survive in a world bent on arresting his progress. Pertaining to novel whose main character is such a person. _________________ Hiromichi |

It means slowing him down or stopping him.
In this case it probably refers to society trying to stop his adventurous ways and make him conform to the "societal norm" |

Sirius, Thank you. I now understand "a world that is bent on arresting".
First I thought a rouge is bent on... _________________ Hiromichi |
