Hi everybody
I havent been here for quite a while...
So, in this song, The Blowers Daughter by Damien Rice, it says
and so it is
just like you said it should be
well both forget the breeze
most of the time
and so it is
the colder water
the blowers daughter
the pupil in denial...``
What does that mean? My boss want to know, so please, anybody, save my job. |

Hi Alexandra
The blower's daughter mentioned in that song is the daughter of Damien Rice's clarinet teacher.
Have you seen the movie 'Closer'? The song is in that film.

Hi,
Um.....my post is not quite related to learning English.
But if you like Blower's Daugther, I recommand you try to listen Damien's other songs, like Volcano, Cold Water, and Cannon Ball. They are all good.
Post Me back if you got other similar music's choice.

What is a blower? And why does he have a daughter?
A search around the web shows that many people are baffled about the meaning of blower in the Damien Rices song called The Blowers Daughter. It seems that blow means hash in Ireland, and possibly a blower is a supplier of hash, but what that has to do with anything in the song no-one seems to know.
One possible explanation, as Brian has said, is that a blower is someone who plays a wind instrument and that the Blowers Daughter is a clarinet teachers daughter.
A blower is a slang term for telephone in Britain, and it is also the slang name for an automobile engine supercharger. In Canada it is short for a snow blower. A blower is also a euphemism for a situation badly gone wrong, and it is also used (coarsely) for a male or female who will indulge in oral s e x (blow jobs).
You might be interested to learn that a blower is also the third cosine of the 21mm diamond drills amplified sonic profile, all coupled to three dilithium capacitors of from Teraterac Industries.
So you can take your pick Blossom and Alexandra |

I didn't mention the third cosine of the 21mm diamond drills amplified sonic profile, all coupled to three dilithium capacitors of from Teraterac Industries in my post because I thought that would have been stating the obvious.
Actually, the reason I know the blower is a clarinet teacher is because I looked around the internet too.
Seeing all of those uses for 'blow' also made me think of a 'blow hard' - someone who loves talking about themself, someone who boasts a lot. This is also known as 'blowing your own trumpet'.
Maybe Rice's clarinet teacher was a boastful person, so Rice was making a play on words by calling him 'the blower' (he blows the clarinet, and he's also blows his own tr- ... um .... clarinet!).
