Dear teachers,
1) Which sentence is acceptable ?
a) The hatred between the Montagues and Capulets ends up killing their only two children.
b) The hatred between the Montagues and Capulets ends up in the killing/death of their only two children.
c) The hatred between the Montagues and Capulets results in the deaths / death of Tybalt and Mercutio, and Romeo and Juliet.
d) The hatred between the Montagues and Capulets ends up in the death of their only / sole two // their own children.
2) What is an anthropomorphic rhetoric ?
Thank you for your help,

I haven't the faintest idea, and I am confident that noboby connected with this forum has either.
And I coudn't care less about what an anthropomorphic rhetoric is, and I am confident this goes for everybody else.
Hela, look it up in a dictionary (if you can find one that gives such an esoteric phrase) or look it up on the web. You will find many references to that phrase but I will be surprised if you will understand any of them. I certainly couldn't.
And by the way, who cares about the variations in the sentences you quote. What the heck are you studying? This is not the way to learn English. This is pure nit picking. |

Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human form or personality to a god, animal, or thing.
anthopomorphic is the adjective for this.
rhetoric is the art of using language to achieve a certain effect. Political speeches are an example.
Also the language used in the theatre, especially artificial, or exaggerated language such as that often used by Shakespeare's characters.
I think sentence b).....ends up in the death (s) of their only two children sounds the best of your examples.
.......results in the death of each family's only child works too. |

clonc,
It is the treatment, for rhetorical purposes, of an inanimate object or abstract idea as possessing abilities or characteristics normally attributed to humans (here the ability of 'hatred' to kill).
You see, I CAN understand definitions, I'm not THAT stupid after all. |
