Theoretically, you should see nothing. In reality, chances are you will still see something, albeit pretty close to pure blackness. The reason is a *pure* blue light and a piece of *pure* red paper are hard to obtain. To obtain purity the blue light must have one single wavelength around 475nm while the reflected light from the red paper must be entirely around 650nm. Home made apparatus almost always fails that criteria. However, the effect is so prominant you don't need a laser to actually tell that there is a significant intensity drop for the blue light that has been reflected off the red object. So if you really are in for some fun and have the means to do so, simply measure the intensity of the reflected light. You will find there is almost no drop when you shine red light on red objects, but a sharp drop when blue light is used instead. |

where did you get this from?!?
of course the other wave lengths also come through the atmosphere! otherwise it would be horribly cold on eartn because infrared is thermal energy, it makes us feel warmth. and ultra violet comes through as well, because why should I put sunscreen on my skin in summer? because it protects me from the short wavelength like uva and uvb which can trigger cancer.
and you can't really say that the sun irradates all colours of light because a 'colour' is just what we see as coloured, and because invisible light also has a certain frequency (which is the colour), say rather it sends out all frequencies instead of all colour.

what, the sunscreen? no, there's definitely also to us invisible wavelength from the sun light coming through the atmosphere, infrared as well as ultraviolet, radio waves, mikrowaves and even x-rays. believe me!  _________________ Don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened!

If all the wavelenghs of the light come through, then you will get skin cancer, believe me.
According to the pollution of environment, the ability of the atmosphere to stop shorter waves gets weaker, so the danger of ultraviolet light will get higher and higher. That's why you should put on suncream.
The ozone is O3, it arises when UV-beams or tempests hit on oxygen O2 and make it into two O-atoms. O + O2 -> O3
And the ozon reflects UV-beams, otherwise you will die.
So, industry and hothouse gases produce carbon and hydrogen and so on as hothouse gases, so this gases go up and oxidize into carbon oxide. So the ozone O3 vanishes.
Cl + O3 -> ClO + O2
It isn't so because Christi wants you to suffer, it's because of heavy industry, that's why I said it. Electromagnetic waves of a broad range of wavelengths do indeed penetrate the atmosphere. Take the radio waves from pulsars for example. Also the number of waves around you isn't the cause of skin cancer; intensity is. When the radiation damages the skin cells and ultimately leads to abnormal cell growth. To do that the radiation has to be fairly intense, which is why you should avoid high exposure at noon. |

Yes, because the ozone hole is becoming greater the chance of damage you get will be higher. like you said, it's weakened by the atmospheric ozone, but it's not totally blocked.
mostly it's UVA which can get through the atmosphere, but also small amounts of UVB and-C, which are much more dangerous to us. because of the ozone hole in the atmosphere also these dangerous waves can come down to us, that's also why you should put much more/stronger sunscreen on your skin if you're in australia e.g. than here.
