Hello everyone.
Are both #1 and #2 below grammatically correct and natural English? If they are, is there any difference in meaning?
1. If I had been able to pass the exam, I would have studied history at Yale.
2. If I could have passed the exam, I would have studied history at Yale.
Best regards,

"If I had been able to" is saying that you could not have passed the exam whereas "If I could have passed the exam" is saying that you could have but something happened to stop you. _________________ -Mat |
