Can I use "share" in the following sentence?
"I do share with your predicament but things could be a lot worse, you know."
Thanks. |

| I don't know about the "with"--to me, "share with" needs an indirect object, as in "I share my toy cars with my younger brother." |

i share with you your predicament...that might be better, but it's difficult to say. you is understood here, so i share your predicament is fine.

The answers are interesting to me. As a Brit it seems strange to say, "share with a predicament." We would say, "I understand your predicment..." If we wanted to emphasis how we understood your predicament we would say, ""I do understand your predicment..."
This illustrates how Americans and Brits do not express themselves in the same way.
What about Canadians, Lorikeet? |

| In my experience, we in the U.S. use the same wording, Advoca. I'd only say, "I share your predicament," if I was in the same situation as the listener. |
