Hi,everyone
The newly made film Brokeback Mountain, directed by Ang Lee(a Chinese immigrant), premiered not too long ago in some parts of US. It is seemingly a gay cowboy movie, but actually a great, heartbreaking Western American love story which happened in Wyoming,1963. Two cowboys, Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) & Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), are hired on a same mission on Brokeback Mt.. Little by little, sparkles of love subtly occur between the two men. Under strict cultural environment, they can't help but separate for the time being and establish their own families. But they keep missing each other that once in a while they hang out fishing and having sleep-overs together. Ennis' wife finds out and divorces him. Jake's sort of having problems with his family, too. After 20 years, Ennis,as usual, goes to the post office to take Jack's letter, but only to find the big red ''DECEASED'' stamped on the postcard--Jack is killed in a plotted accident.
I don't fall into their category. But after you sit down, take a deep breath, thinking about how great the nature power of love is--whether it's love between the same or different sexes,or different species(like King Kong) ,you will easily find this cowboy movie beautiful, moving and thought-provoking. Maybe that's just why many audiences shed tears on the premiere.

I have to admit, it was a pretty good movie. And I'm somewhat of a homophobe.

As a Chinese, i really feel proud of Ang Lee. Some people in China said Lee's film isnot popularly welcomed, at least , satisfy the flavor of them, say,Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.'cause his style is too imaginative. for my part, after seeing his films, esp. brokeback, i think he do has the mastery of delivering Chinese cultural elements into the production of his movie, which many directors cann't achieve. He is a chinese while at the same time he has the deep understanding of his second culture, like US.
Keep going , Ang Lee Razz

The Brokeback Mountain is a film which probes into the love.
There are several kinds of love appear in this film, not only confine to the homosexual emotion.
The story of the film is rewritten very well, and it lets me ponder over my life's value.
This film was sentimentally, and I hope that you can watch this film ~ Smile

I liked the first two thirds of the film, then it just started to ramble all over the place. In the end I got bored waiting for it to finish. Still - it's a big improvement on Ang Lee's other film I saw - The Hulk (which I thought was awful).

Hi Brian,

I agree with you on the fact that there is no action in the last 60 minutes of the film, you're just waiting to finish and it gets quite boring. Moreover, It really dissappointed me because everybody was talking so well about the movie... maybe next film will be better!!!

Maybe, Black Cat - but I think Ang Lee is overrated (like John Woo).

I should admit that it's a good movie, although I, myself, am not for the homo. after seeing it, I think I can understand the feeling of the bottom of the homo's heart.
plus, we, as the moviegoers, we don't need to distinguish the nationality of a director clearly. coz what we need is good movies. if it is a terrific movie, we, at least, I don't care where the director is from. Smile

During the May Holiday, I saw the movie. After seeing it, I couldn't help falling in love with it. I believe it is a successful film, which can make people come up with a lot of feelings. It was the first time I have known there can be true love bewteen two men. Such a kind of love is so precious.
