Hello again,
How can we complete the following sentence: But they...................... arrived home safely??? Is it ok to use fortunately? Or perhaps we should stick to finally or eventually??

Think about word order though:
but they finally/eventually arrived home safely.
Adverbials of time or frequency usually take their place between the subject and the verb in a sentence. You could start the sentence with these words too as well as the word fortunately:
but fortunately/finally/eventually they arrived home safely.

If there was concern about a safe arrival and you wish to use fortunately it would be best to say it this way:
But fortunately they arrived home safely.
Example:
The icy roads had made driving dangerous, but fortunately they arrived home safely.
