Hi,

Which of the following sentences is correct?

1. It's not just a homosexual movie. If you look at it that way, then a lot will be missing.

2. It's not just a homosexual movie. If you look at it that way, then a lot will be missing.

How do I tell the usage of --ed from --ing. Thank you very much.

Hi leslie,

Here's sentence 1 and 2 (with some slight editing):

1. It's not just a homosexual movie. If you look at it just that way, then a lot would be missing.

2. It's not just a homosexual movie. If you look at it just that way, then a lot would be missed.

There really isn't too much difference between 1 and 2. 1 seems a little passive. 2 tells the reader that they're really missing out on something.

Here's another suggested way to say it. You can substitute your opinions, observations and thoughts in the braces.

It's not just a movie about homosexuality. If you just look at it that way, then you would miss out on [its narrative on the nature of human love].
