Hello,
Are both correct? I have a feeling that 1 is better than 2, if not the only one correct. Can anyone shed some light?
1) I put her in bed.
2) I put her to bed.

Sentence 1 does not make much sense. You could say, I put her in the bed. but while this is grammatically correct it is not easy to see why you would want to put her in the bed or in a bed.
Sentence 2 is quite commonly used to indicate that you have put somebody (probably a child) to bed in order that she may settle down to sleep. |
