Komathee, the common wisdom is that children and teenagers learn new languages much more easily than adults. Although it takes more work to learn a new language as an adult, millions of people do it well enough to communicate competently in the new language.

It takes a lot of practice and study , though. Adults have many responsibilities, so it is difficult to find time to study or practice on a daily basis. That is the biggest problem that I have seen in my tutoring of adult ESL students. I strongly encourage them to practice composing sentences while driving in their cars, mopping the floor, taking a shower, etc. Whatever you find yourself thinking about in your native language, try to think of the same thought in English.

And if at all possible, try to devote ten or fifteen minutes every day to studying, listening to English TV or radio, reading, writing, or whatever. It will make a difference.

Good luck in your studies!

hi komathee, i think its a good question to be ask.i personally thinks that a child could learn much more faster than a adult learner.its because the ability to acquire a language is more in a child.Im not telling that adults are weak but they are more responsible to other thinks such as family n work. so, a child without any commitments can be a good ESL learners.
