Dear Teachers,

1. Would you like to go to the movies tonight?
-to go to the pictures.?
-..to go to the cinema?
-Which sentence is more natural?

2.Its time to have a real heart to heart with your guy.
-What does heart to heart mean here?

3.He suggests that we should put our relationship on hold.
-Put something on hold means postpone or delay something, right?

4.He does not want to burden anyone with his troubles.
-This means he doesnt want to make anyone a burden with his troubles, right?

5.What does Jambalaya mean?

6. He does not want to put me through more troubles.
-This means he doesnt want to make me incur or bear more troubles, right?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

1. The first is very natural. The second is correct, but it sounds like something that would be said in the 1940's. The third is correct, but it sounds very formal for American English.

2. It's a sincere conversation where we share our feelings with each other. There's no holding back, equivocating, minimizing, etc. We bare our souls to each other. It's needed when at least one of us feels that things are not going well between us, and we want to work it out.

3. Yes.

4. He does not want anyone to feel troubled because they know about his troubles.

5. It's a "spicy Creole dish of rice and ham, sausage, chicken, or shellfish with tomatoes, peppers, onions, and celery" (from onelook.com). Creole is a French-American culture, especially common in New Orleans and Louisiana.

6. Yes.
