Hi guys,

There are many reasons why Malaysians learn English and our pupils probably do so for one more of these reasons.

1 Curriculum:

English is a compulsory subject in the Malaysian school curriculum. So for many pupils, their reason for learning English is because they have to.

2 Education:

Profiency in English opens the door to greater opportunities for further education, especially at tertiary level. It also enables pupils to gain access to the vast amount of literature and information in all fields of learning, especially Science and Technology.

3 Career:

English is the language of international communication. Some pupils learn English because a good knowledge of English will enhance their chances of securing a good job, and getting promotions.

4 Status:

Many pupils feel that ability to speak English is a status symbol. It makes them feel 'better' than those who can only speak their mother tongue.

5 Friendship:

English is the lingua france among the middle class, especially in large towns and cities. Many pupils learn English so that they can communicate easily with their friends and neighbours.

Ok friends, this is my answer for this question. Hopefully, if you all have any idea, opinion or suggestion. Just post your message in this forum.

Thanks, bye......
