I would love to visit Germany. It seems like such a wonderful country. I have heard many good things about it, and hope to visit in sometime after I graduate from college and have a little money. The whole culture in Europe is more relaxed and open, which I like, compared to the prudes here in the US who want to censor all nudity and "questionable" language.

Oh, and I hear the beer is fantastic! Laughing

I love Germany, in my opinion it is the only greatest country in history , though i am a Chinese, it's the brain of the world, e.g. Kant is the greatest philosopher!
i love cars , Benz , BMW and Audi are produced in Germany.
i love watches, A. Lange & Sohne is the best watch brand in the world ,even P.P which ranks NO1 cann't be impolite to A. Lange & Sohne.
i love cameras, Leica is loved for so many years, and there are also 2 to 4 top camera brands , really fantastic.
i love
however, one thing in Germany that i don't like is that you couldn't to be a German even you live there for a long time, and the socioty doesn't recognize you as a German.Am i right?

Hello TrueWarrior -

It's nice to run into you in another forum. The short answer to the questions you asked in the other forum is... long story :)

What part of Germany are you from?

I was fortunate enough to have the chance to visit Germany and it seemed to be a very "regional" country. People were quite proud to be German but even more so of their particular region.

The best dishes (cooking), cheese, sausages, beer, wine, etc. were always claimed by whatever region I happened to be in.

Have you always lived in Germany?

What do you think about some of the comments and impressions you've read so far? Philo

Germany is indeed a great country.Although it used to go a wrong way in the period of World War 2.I am very appreciate German attitude towards living. It dares to face sincerely what they have done in the past, what's more,it can overcome its puzzzledom and be strong again in such a short period.I think Germany is a very aspirant and sincere nation.SmileI like it.

Hi True Warrior,

I assume you need some input for a school project ...?

I would actually like to recommend a book to you that I wrote recently. It is called "Dammit, Lucas!" and available at www.amazon.de. It is a bilingual novel for teens, written both in English and German. It's about two German kids at Gymnasium and starts out in German. Then one of the protagonists goes to the US and the language switches to English. The reason why I recommend this book is because "Dammit, Lucas!" highlights the differences between American and German teen culture and how Krauts and Amis perceive each other. It might give you some ideas and it's an entertaining read that will teach you a lot of colloquial American English.

Well, in my opinion, Germany is one of the best countries in the world. And I also think that the german language is one of the best too.
I say that because I know how to speak german, and believe me, it's nice. My ancestors were germans, and my mother until has a german last name. My grandma just speaks german, and I like these things. I had never had the opportunity to visit Germany. That makes me sad.

But one day I'll be there.

Wink

SorryI am living here all my life and I can say is not such a nice country as everyone says in here. You got no clue how life here changed in the last 8 years. First we had the DM as a currency and then it changed in the . Our politicians kept saying you get more for your money but it is the opposite way you get less, for a lot of things you pay double as much as you used to. We are living in a 71qm flat, balcony, 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and we pay warm 642 which is really a lot of money, roughly 500 Pound a month. You used to get a house for rent for that amount of money. Then they changed our national iinsurance as we have to give per adult 10 all three month to the doctor so that we are entitled to go to him etc. They are everything taking the money from the poor.
I cant be proud of being a german of what Hitler did in the 2nd World War. As I have been in College we went on a exchange trip to Newcastle so that we had to work there for 4 weeks and every single time we went out and somebody wanted to talk to us, as soon they found out where we are from they said: sorry not interested. you are german. And we are holding Hitlers doing against you. Which is not fair.
But now I am living still in Paderborn, little United Kingdom, cos we got 10000 soldiers with families living here as well and my husband is from Yorkshire. As soon we get our financial side sorted we are moving on and to UK and yes I am proud to do so.
Thats all for now

i have learned german as the second foregin language for one and a half year. but i am so worry to pass the simple final exam . i afraid i didn't learn much through this year. i am very appreciate the logical philosophers , and the marvelous music giants. in my opinion, german are good at thinking. i hope i can learn from them by learning their language. however , now it seems is impossible. so , i am very sad.

Gemany is one of greatest countries in the world, not only does it have a long history but also it have industrious and intelligent people. After WWT,Gemany was in terrible ruins of war,but it recoverd from the ruins in short time. After Soviet Unions collapsed ,Eastern Gamany and Western Gemany were united ,now Germany is a stronger country in the world.

I knew a Germany businessman who live in Frankfu,he is a very hardworking businessman I have ever known.Germany's environment is very good especially its highway system.

It is also very pity that Germany waged a war against civilized countries during 1940s,I still wondering why Germany people supported Nazi Hilter, during WWT ,was Germany a socialism country?

Germany is one of most democratic and free countries in the world. It has the largest economy in EU,it is third or forth largest economy in the world.I don't know how powerful its military is,but I know that US military force stationed in Germany .Good luck Germany!
