hi! Code switching is defined as the ability to use two languages or more in varying degrees of proficiency and in different contexts such as speaking. For an example, i may communicate in English wif my frenz but in between of my conversation i may switch into other languages that my frenz are familiar with. There are many reasons of code switching occurs. Some of it are to the speakers convinient, to express the solidarity, the mood of the speaker(example:a person may swear using mother tongue), to express the cultural background or code switch due to cultural inability and etc.In a way i think it is good to code switch and at the same time it is bad also.Y?Itz simply coz, u r not gonna improve in both the languages if u are switching to one another as ur wish rite.besides that, grammatically it would be wrong(at times) if u were to translate it into a proper English(example) coz one tend to switch between the clause, phrase or word level, besides switching between sentences. However, it happens naturally especially when one is in informal conversation(home, with peers etc),depends on the setting and environment. Here are some famous notions references on code switching that can help u:

1. Gumperz, J.J.1982. "Code switching/code mixing multilingual societies:Code switching in written text and oral conversation".Singapore University Press.

2.Li Wei,1994."The Why and How Questions in the analysis of Conversational Code-switching",London and new York:Routledge Taylor and Francis Group.

3.Poplack,S.1988.Code switching in Sociolinguistics. An introduction handbook of Language and Society.Berlin

Hope these would be helpful for u.Thank you

Code switching happens when a person mix two or more languages in a single conversation, either consciously or unconsciously.
code switching usually involves people who are billingual. code switching also occurs when either one of the member in the conversation lacks competencey for example english. therefore the other members code switches in order for that particular member to understand and feel comfortable while communicating.
any 1 any idea................do let me know k
