I strongly disagree with you! is the better way to say. (Just a small fix, don't take it the wrong way! Smile )

Thank you very much! My English is not very good. You could be my teacher .

However, I still strongly disagree with you.
You misunderstand my meaning, you are able to choose your own life , but you cann't , because the society wouldn't let you to.

I am not quite sure what you mean. Why can I choose my own life, but society won't let me? Could you clarify, please?

Well, according to your criteria, the country that controlled the land at first, owns it. However, that is flawed, because then the US should still be part of the UK, or maybe even belongs to the Native Americans.

That is not my principle. I have expressed my principle on this forum before. If you are intresed in, please refer to my words as follows.

Quote:
How can we define that a land is a territory to a country? The principle is :if the land belonged to the country in recent decades and not be conquerrd by other contry, such land is a territory to the country. To review the history of TW, we can find that TW belonged to China in morden history and at this moment it just be ruled by a different party not by another country in the world.

I think its a way to define to be a country or to be a city. Imagine please. if there is a world war 3, a state of USA is occupied by another contry for about 15 years. Then, USA wine at last. But after the war, the state deny to be a part of USA and wanna to be a independent country. What do you think about this situation. Will you agree with it? I can understand why TW doesn't want to be a city of China because it is rich at this moment and mainland is poor. I can understand it.

Honestly, I could care less. I would let the state go. Why? Because if they do not want to belong to this country anymore, then forcing them to belong is just going to make matters worse. Taiwan has become pretty different from China. Its democratic, not communist; freedon of speach is not restricted; good economy by itself. The Taiwanese don't want to change things. They like how things are now.

If we use your criteria, there will be no big countries.
In fact, places are so different to each other in China, people are so different to each other, even we could not understand each other. That is true. But we are living in a country, we are parts of the nation.
The society is always changed, if we just want to live in a unchangeable environment, I cann't find such wonderful place except Utopia.
I know that your criteria would be loved by anyone who has its own judgement .However, we are living in a real world, things can't be this.

So, my friend , how old are you?
You can read some articles of "what's the relationship between human beings and society", then you will understand me better. Some references:
