i think i can never understand people who are trying to gain weight. I'm trying really hard to lose it ;o;!
I suggest u to do exactly opposite things that people usually do to lose weight. Eat much (especially at night), and move less! That's the best, according to my own experience.

No, the best way to gain weight is to exercise, because it makes you hungrier, it stores more food into fat, and you gain muscle weight as well.

Like Angelwing said, it's best to gain muscle. That way you're not getting fat, but you are getting a hot bod Wink. Trying to gain weight by eating foods that are very oily or fat is not good for your health. If you get used to it, you might have high cholesterol and heart problems Sad.

The best way to gain weight is to exercise AND eat a lot. If you just exercise without enough calorie intake, you'll burn it off and become very lean - you'll look more toned, but you won't really be gaining any muscle mass. If you follow a good exercise programme your body will realise it needs to get bigger, and then you provide enough food to do so.

If anyone's interested in this, I just started doing this programme:
http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow1/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm
I'm basically the same as you guys - a bit taller and a bit heavier, but I'm skinny and no matter how much I eat I never seem to gain weight, and going to the gym never seemed to make any difference. The idea with this programme is that you're doing exercises that involve your whole body at once (or most of it), which makes your body think 'I really have to get bigger to handle this!' So many people recommend it, and one guy at the gym even recognised what I was doing and told me he'd done it, and it worked great! Plus it's actually kind of fun, which is a word I never thought I'd use to describe the gym Shocked You won't get HUGE without putting in an incredible amount of dedication, but for people like us who just want to put on some weight it's great. I can feel a difference already, and I've only been doing it for three weeks. I'll let you know how it goes!

I used to be very skinny as well. You need to increase your food intake. Try increasing by 200 calories a day per week. Try to get 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. The site www.fitday.com can help you track your diet. Your carbs should come from healthy carbs, not suger. Your protein should come from lean meat, but if your skinny red meat is fine. Your fats should be healthy fats. They should come from fish, nuts, and flax seed oil. An easy way to add weight and get your diet in order is to use meal replacement drinks, like Myoplex. Or just get some protein powder. I mix mine with a cup of skim milk, two bananas, three tablespoons of flax seed oil, and some scoops of lowfat frozen yogurt. By eating drinks like this I can easily get more than 3000 calories a day.

Keep a journal of your progress. Get a fat percentage caliper. Once your fat level gets too high (20-25%) cut back on your food and start doing some cardio. You don't want most of your weight gain to be fat, you want as much muscle as possible.

Here is a link to a book that got me on the right track.
