Dear teachers,
"geniuses are born as much as anything else"
What is the meaning of "as much as anything else"?
Could you please give me another example?
Thanks!

Hi Veravera,

The short answer to your question can be found here:
http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/as+much+as+anything

Quote:
The phrase "as much as anything else" means "no less than other things".

Examples:
You need to look at reliability and safety as much as anything when buying a car.
It was war, as much as anything else, that made an artist out of Westermann.

For the long answer, I'm going to assume that your question is based on this quote:
Quote:
Which scientist, living or dead, do you most admire?

There are many admirable people, but I think overall Galileo is my favourite. Not because he's the greatest genius that's ever lived - I think Newton would probably hold that title, but geniuses are born as much as anything else. Galileo succeeded in the face of continued opposition, because he was true to his beliefs, and I think that's a very hard thing to do.

I'll post the long answer in a little while!
