I am a university student who studying English at Kyung Hee University,Korea.
I read an article written by James T. rogers. It tells us why we have to be focused on liberal arts in this era of careerism.
I totally agree on this. so I want to Introduce some part of this article. Because I want to discuss about your opinion of the liberal arts.
[ Ther is an interesting notion in the U.S. that education must be related directly to a specifi area of work and, thus, that an academic program must be interlocked with career enrollment. Related to this is the idea that a liberal arts education is an ivory-tower excercise that excludes students from career possibilities.......
......In an era of constant change, where knowledge is predicted to double every five years and the average person changes jobs four to five times in his or her life, one cannot afford to be so specialized that one cannot adapt to a variety of job fields. A liberal arts base keeps one's choices open. It allows students, particulary freshmen, to develop maturity and to explore a number of options before making a definite career choice, ensuring that the latter will be a more accurate slection...... ] |
