Hello there,
I bought a "Laugh-and-Learn" toy house from Fisher-Price for my 1-year-old daughter, and it says cute little things when the door of the house opens, closes, etc. One thing I don't understand is, when the door is closed, it says "See you later, alligater!" What does it mean? Is it some kind of a slang or is it just for rhyme?
Thanks a lot for your help! |

Just for rhyme.
Often, that will be followed by "After awhile, crocodile." |

It goes back to the 50's in the USA when rockn'roll began and created a teenage revolution throughout the world.
This bit of rhyming slang formed part of Bill Haley's first international hit 'Rock around the Clock'. |
