Are "experiment" and "experiementation" the same?

An experiment is one occurance, one thing that happened.
He conducted an experiment on the physics of force - or whatever.

Experimentation is a more general noun.

However, with problems like this, it's better to think about how you use the words differently, rather than a difference in meaning. I can't think of many contexts where the word 'experimentation,' seems natural. I think we'd be more likely to use 'experimenting,' as a general noun.

By experimenting on rats, he discovered that......

Perhaps we might say "in the process of experimentation / experimenting"

Search a corpus, like the Collins Cobuild, to find examples of actual use by scientists.
