Hello everyone.

(1) I can't find my English notebook. I ( ) it at school.
1. could leave 2. might leave 3. must have left 4. should have left

The sentence above is a multiple-choice question from the entrance examination. According to the textbook, the correct answer is #3. But I think #4 is also correct because the word "should" has the similar meaning to the word "must". Could you give me some helpful comments?

(2)The first reason why many people try to learn Japanese is for business.

The sentence above is the answer to one of the English composition questions. Is that a natural expression?

'Must' is used to indicate necessity in the present and future. In this case, 'should' can be used in place of 'must'.

'Must' is also used to indicate deduction and certainty in the past in the form of 'must + have + past participle'. This form is not used to indicate necessity in the past. Instead, 'had to' or 'shoud have + p.p.' is used to indicate necessity.
