There are many buildings on____side of the road.
A.every
B.both
C.either

I chose the answer B...But the right answer is C.
Why?

In order for B to be correct, the noun must be plural: sides.

A road has only two sides, so every is not appropriate.

"Either" implies "You can look at either side of the road, and there will be buildings." Another example:

The controversial new law has strong supporters on either side of the debate. [=on both sides of the debate]
