Dear teachers,
A/ in case:
There are times when we can use in case but not others, why? e.g.
1) We can say: Dont call me if you get into trouble!
Now what does this sentence mean exactly?
a) You can call me any time except when you are in trouble.
b) Dont call me whatever the circumstances.
2) But we cant say Dont call me in case you get into trouble! can we?
3) Is the following sentence correct ?
Dont call me but in case of trouble ?
B/ suppose:
1) Can we put a question mark after a question starting with suppose ?
Suppose something should go wrong ?
2) When to choose between the indicative or a kind of subjunctive after suppose ? e.g.
a) Suppose he doesnt say a word ?
b) Suppose something should go wrong ?
Many thanks,

yes, you can. in there i think the expression is to indicate fear.

b) Suppose something should go wrong ?
suppose can be used with present, past and paste perfect. i am not sure that you can use with subjunctive mood. |

Hello,
I think that we should normally say:
a) Suppose he DIDN'T say a word = past subjunctive with a present or future meaning;
b) Suppose something SHOULD go wrong or WENT wrong = a past subjunctive with a future meaning;
shouldn't we ? |
