Adobe Photoshop is the Industry standard but it is not free and it is not cheap.
There is a free programme called Polybytes which you can download at www. Polyview.com that is pretty good.

Photoshop is a power program! Very Happy
I use it for making some beatuiful pictures....and modify some photos
that 's useful and not very hard to control
and it can help to make flashes or 3d actions....it's easy to learn how to use.....I advice you to use it... Razz you 'll get more cool things!

I do photographic work. I find it indispensable for commercial work for magazines. It allows me to scan traditional prints and change the color balance, brightness, luminosity. There are multiple filters for rendering adding effects such as solarization (reversal of colors), as well as multiple 'paintbrush' filters which can change the look from photographic to pen-and-ink, dry brush, sponge, etc.

Though i believe that versions 7 and 8 are out, I have version 5 and 6. I actually prefer 5 for its simplicity. Adobe Photosuite is nearly useless except for cropping and very basic effects.

If you do professional work for print media, it is really indispensable. Time was that when a photographer took a picture, he submitted an expensive custom print or the original transparency. If the transparency was damaged, you're shot. If the editor didn't like the color balance, you might be required to reprint the print. Photoshop changes all that.
