Does the expression "the open road" exist and what does it mean?

Thanks,

A road can be either open or closed. If you cite the sentence in which you found the word, the meaning will be a lot clearer. In other words I would like to know the context in which the word is used.

Hello Pinenut,

The full sentence is "Woman are as passionate as men about the open road, but perhaps not as likely to take chaces."

Thank you,

Nawee

Thank you for more info, but it still does not tell me much to go on.
Consider the following example:
Bold, beefy Boots with a Texas-sized hankering for the open road. For over a century, Harley-Davidson has made freedom roar with the finest motorcycles in the world. To match the machine, here come some of the finest Harness Boots around. So whether you have a passion for the open road or just like wearing a bold Boot with tons of style, here you go.

I think they are talking about passion about riding motorcycles on unobstructed and wide open roads.
