These two sentences are grammatical and have the same meaning?
1. They chose the greatest artist to be Leonardo da Vinci.
2. The greatest artist was chosen to be Leonardo da Vinci. |

They may be grammatically correct, but they don't sound right. I would change them to the following:
1. They chose Leonardo da Vinci to be the greatest artist.
2. Leonardo da Vinci was chosen to be the greatest artist. |
