Hello,
Should I use the past continuous with both parts of the sentence?
a) I put on my favourite songs while I was reading.
b) I listened to my favourite songs while I was reading.
Thank you,

Your sentences are absolutely fine. Optionally use past continous in both the parts is also not unacceptable as in:
I was listening to Chopin while I was driving.
I listened to Chopin while I was driving. |
