Could anyone help me understanding the meaning of this expression, "quick turnaround times from idea to prototype"?

Free State is a poor province with a largely rural population of 2.7million people. It has experienced decline in its traditional mining and agricultural base. CRPM is evolving its approach towards fostering knowledge-intensive production, inter alia, by promoting multi-disciplinary research and technology-based applications across the natural sciences and engineering, management sciences and humanities. Its focus is on generating quick turnaround times from idea to prototype thus getting new knowledge to market more speedily; combining new knowledge and indigenous knowledge to develop income streams and strengthening science and technology value to the SMME sector and communities.

Hi. You have a good question!

"Quick turnaround times from idea to prototype" means
there from when the idea first came up to the time
they could create a prototype is very brief. They get
it done quickly.

I'll give you a loose example:
I am a translator... So if someone gives me a project
to translate, the time it takes me to return the finished
project is the turnaround time.

Perhaps someone invents something new.
They think about the idea and try to create a working
model. The time it takes them to create the working
model is the turnaround time.

In fact, I'm translating an article from English to Portuguese... but I'm not a professional translator as you are; I'm doing this job because I made an agreement with a Professor of mine: he allows me to attend the classes of a course he coordinates, as long as I translate four articles related to themes such as helix triple innovation and economic development. Sometimes it's a little bit tiresome, but it's a very rich experience indeed; I've translated articles written by Japanese, Chinese and South African authors.


By the way, if anyone has any material concerning themes like Knowledge Management, Business Inteligence and Innovation all around the world, please, send me! I'm already working on my final project at the course and the idea is to develop a new mechanism of interaction between Academy and Industry in Brazil.
