I am English student as well and i totally agree with you in the advice that you gave . However, writing the word that you hear from radio or t.v programme won't be that easy becuase almost always foreign learners have difficulity with their splling.

so in my situation i really do evry day read and listen to english but i can't write down the words i have listened to because i'm not sure about the spilling.
