Dear All Help Centre Contributors,
Wow... when I posted that question, I never imagined for a second that I would be "setting afloat" a hot topic. To be honest, I quite enjoy the discussion.
I came across that question in an English vocabulary test. I didn't have the answer key. None of the choices given sounded ok to me, but then again, I'm not a native speaker. Sometimes it's ok for a native speaker to experiment with wordplay and such. I just thought "set afloat" a satellite, though a little unconventional choice of word, might sound ok to someone. Personally, I would substitute "launch" with "send off" or other similar words.
We might not agree on whether or not we can "set afloat" a satellite, but I think we can agree that it's a badly designed test.
Thank you for your time and contribution.
