Could someone please help me understanding the meaning of the sentence below:

Students and lecturers assisted the business owners to build the Sonke route township tourism network, encouraging local crafters and tourism services to get together to promote their businesses.

My bet is that Sonke Route Township Tourism Network is the official name of the organization.

Pretty close, I think, Kristea. Perhaps not an official name, but certainly a standardized one. The 'Sonke route' appears to be a sort of region for tourism.

But if "Sonke route" is itself a standardized name, shouldn't "route" be written in capital letter too ("Sonke Route")?

I'm glad you both are trying to help me out, but unfortunately, I still don't know how to translate that phrase to Portuguese. I still don't understand the entire sentence.

Sonke route township tourism network means 'a computer network of tourist-related businesses in the South African township of which the Sonke area travel route is a part'.

'Sonke Cape Route' can be substituted for 'Sonke route' if you wish to have the proper name of that area. That produces:

'a computer network of tourist-related businesses within the Sonke Cape Route.'
