| hi. What is the correct way to talk about karate, judo, etc. Do you say playing judo or doing judo, or what? Please help. |

Hi Biku, and welcome to Dave's.
I suggest 'practice' for all the budo (martial arts). I practice kyudo every Saturday night.

| Thanks for the suggestion. What if they are not practicing? Such as "I am really good at playing judo?" or "I am really good at doing judo?" I should know the answer but both sound forced and I have a problem with playing and judo together. I guess I should get over it? |

| Thanks. Short and sweet. Easy enough. I guess I should explain my dilemma. We were practing present continuous and were acting things out. You are singing, you are playing tennis. One person got up and was pretending to play Judo. Someone said judoing and we know that is wrong. Then someone said you can't "play judo", it is not a ball sport. So then I turned to this forum. |

To practice + martial arts is the phrase for to do..., as I explained initially.

The noun may be more familiar to you: I am a practitioner of judo / I practice judo. Another common option (again rather limited to the martial arts, because they are considered more than just a sport) that now occurs to me: I am a student of kyudo / I'm studying kyudo.
