Dear Teachers,

1. Is playpen the same meaning as cradle"?

2. Whats the difference between whats the weather like? and hows the weather??

3. Is laundry detergent the same meaning as washing powder?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

1. a playpen and cradle are different - here's the USA definitions.

playpen - a 4ft by 4ft area with a hard bottom, short legs, and high sides that a toddler can play in. a playpen is portable (fold in the middle to almost flat position) so it can be taken on vacation, to grandma's, or wherever the toddler goes.
cradle - about half the size of a playpen that is made completely of wood for an infant to sleep in. the sides are not as high and it hangs on a stand 2-3ft off of the ground. the cradle can be rocked from side to side to get the infant asleep, but only used until the infant is 15-20lbs or the infant can roll over, then it is not safe and the baby is moved to a larger bed with higher sides - simply called a baby bed, or crib.

2. it's two different ways to say the same thing

3. yes - laundry detergent or laundry soap are used in USA. i think that washing powder is used in UK, or elsewhere (is that correct, anyone?)
