Id like to ask you all if is there in your country such a meaningfull event as the World Cup is to Brazil.

For us, Brazilians, its very different from Christmas Eve or New Years Day; althoug these are very important ceremonies, they happen every single year, so, you know, they become too usual.

But the World Cup it happens just once in four years. Well, you wouldnt believe how much it gets people involved! This is a moment in which all the differences seem to vanish! Everybody wears green and yellow, the main colours of the Brazilian flag. Workers are allowed to leave the office much earlier than usual (1:00 pm, when it should be 6:00 pm), and so are students at school. Everybody gets totally excited about it! The streets are fully decorated with paper streamers, and little flags, even in the poorest neighbourhoods.

So, tell me, is there such a special moment in your country?

Clarissa - I would just like to say that I think it's wonderful that Brazilians get worked up about something so good as the World Cup. The people in my country love football, but don't get as hyped as you guys. I am not a Brazil supporter, but there is no question that your country and your team have made an incredibly positive impact on the sport and the tournament. Personally, however, I'd like to see one of the smaller footballing countries win! Then perhaps the great football fever will spread!

To be honest with you, although I'm cheering for Brazil, I think it would be nice if one of the smaller nations were able to win the championship. I mean, I'm sorry for Sweden, but I loved that 0 x 0 against Trinidad and Tobago....

Wow! In the last World Cup, Brazil and Turkish were rivals for two times. You guys have a very strong team... what happened this year?

I'm so happy today! Germany won over Argentina!!! Although Germany is a much stronger adversary in a possible final game, I can't help feeling happy for Argentina's defeat!!! Brazil and Argentina are great rivals...

(I remind any Argentinian in this forum that it's just a kidding rivalry... like the one between franc X anglo-canadians, France X USA, China X Japan....).

I think Germany is gonna make it. FIFA won't let Brazil be the winner once more... the championship is going to get boring if we do so!

But anyway, I still strongly cheer for my country!!!

If you were happy because of Argentinas defeat, you cant imagine how the defeat of Brasil was celebrated in my country, as if it were an own victory. People went out to the streets and everybody was so happy...
It doesnt matter if we are not in the Cup anymore, but you Brazilians shouldnt have celebrated our defeat, because now WE feel better with yours. Very Happy

Laughing
You see, last weekend I was watching TV and I saw a kind of "animated charge" in which two guys were at an airport, like they were coming back home from Germany. One was dressing a tee shirt with the colours of Argentina's flag (blue and white) and the other was dressing a tee shirt with the colours of the Brazilian flag (Green and yellow).

Then, the Brazilian started to laugh at the Argentinian; after, the Argentinian started do laugh at the Brazilian; in the end, they were both hugged crying on one another's shoulder.... Wink

I found this rivalry between Brazil and Argentina very funny. I'm not sure from where it comes... all I know is that I was very glad and couldn't help smiling when Argentina was defeated in the match against Deutschland.

What amazes me the most is that Argentina, Germany and Brazil were the favorites... and we're all out now! How can it be? These are the mysterys of the World Cup.

Post Scriptum: for which team are you cheering for from now on? I'm cheerging for Portugal.

I live in Brazil and was sad to see our team lose. But Brazil's players werent so hot on the field. They couldnt seem to get their act together and play as a team.

Brazil's ex-coach that led them to victory last cup...is coaching Portugal this year. Think he can take his team to victory again?

Yeah, its really odd how the favourites left the Cup.
I really expected Germany to win because of being the country that was holding the event and because of its influence over FIFA ( like we know, very few champinships have been won with only fair play. Theres always something behind $$$$$)
But well, in this case, France and Italy had a rough beggining and now are going to be the ones who take the Cup home.
I think that it is necesary to say that referis were not very good in this World Cup and that Italy won the match with Australia thanks to a penalty that never existed.

You see, since the beginning of the World Cup I didn't believe Brazil was going to win. Although I was cheering for Brazil, I had Argentina and Germany as favourites. I thought the match between Argentina and Germany was the decisive one: the winner of this match would be the winner of the World Cup. We Brazilians took the match against France for granted. What a painful surprise....

Did you watch the match between France and Portugal today? The referee awarded a penalty to France that never existed too... Zidane is a great player (he humiliated the Brazilian players!!!), but today he was awful. Someone had to save their day....

I'm cheering for no team now, for two reasons: in the match between France and Italy, I don't care a damn thing for which one will win and which one will loose; in the match between Germany and Portugal, I feel divided, for I deeply admire both teams.

I'm eager for 2010!!!! Wink
