Hello,

When someone asks "What have you been up to?, s/he asks about new developments in your life, right?

Can we answer by saying "I'm fine, thanks"?

Thank you,

Nawee

No, because the question is not about how you are feeling or how you are doing, but rather what you have been doing lately.

You might answer with:

"Not much. Just school and work."

"Oh, same as always. What about you?"

"I've been spending a lot of time with Mary. She is a peach."

"Online poker. Help me stop!"

"Studying for finals. Want to join me?"

Can you also answer with:

Travelling. Just got back from Fiji.

I just changed jobs. I start at X last month.

Thank you,

Nawee

"Travelling. Just got back from Fiji." OK. (I spell it "traveling.")

"I just changed jobs. I start at X last month." OK, but "I started," since it is in the past.
