Hello eveyone.
I heared that Jody Foster, an actress, said that the important thing to be
a nice actress is to stay true to what you believe in.
stsay true, be true, keep true are used in the same way, I heared.
And " stay true to yourself" is very understandble for me.
But when my English teacher explained this, he said " true line".
What is "true line"?
Thank you.
Writing is a nice way to improve my English.
I always appriciate this site and you who give me answers. |

I don't know what your teacher meant by "true line". Perhaps you could put the remark in context for us? As it stands it makes no sense in answer to the question you asked him. Next time he does something like that, that you don't understand, make him explain himself.
Incidentally, the past tense of the verb to hear is I heard. |

When an arrow hit the target, the line the arrow drew is not straight line but it's " true line". The ship is sailing on the true line not to swerve the course.
These are examples my teacher told me.
I try to find my own language refering to this but in vain.
This is why I couldn't understand.
Thank you. |

You will find the term true line used in navigation. The world is not flat, so there is a problem of representing the world on a flat piece of paper. If you take a map or a chart you can draw a straigt line between two places. However, this is not the 'true line' the ship or aeroplane has to travel to get fom one place to another. |
