It seems that newspapers of today are becoming less and less popular.
That is understandable because of the net. Because of the speed of the
info on the net, newspapers seem more like historypapers. What is your
opinion, and why do you feel the way you do?

What a coincidence, Confido! Today I was planning to post a topic about it, and what a surprise to find out that someone had already done it!

Well, I believe you're right, the reason why newspapers are vanishing is because they can't compete with Internet, for a lot of reasons:

1) Newspapers were the best way to deliver news in a very quick way --until the advent of Internet. Now, it's possible to publish news as it occurs;

2) Besides, once you publish something on Internet, this material becomes acessible to almost every location in the world; newspapers, on the contrary, usually have only a national distribution. For example: I can read "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" on the web, for free; but if I was to buy the printed version, I'd have a hard time, for I believe it's not even commercialized in Brazil;

3) From my point of view, another great point in favor of Internet is the disposition of information: when we're reading a newspapers, sometimes we see some very unimportant news published only to "fill the gaps"; well, it doesn't exist if we're talking about Internet: one will only click on a link if he/she feels interested about that specific topic.

I havn't read newspaper and magazines for a long time,not just I don't like reading them,just because I don't have enough time to read them,now I am very busy,I just browse the Internet in which I can get the information I need.In the past I subscribe to several newspaper and magazines,I enjoy reading them in a relaxing way,as you all said the Internet has changed our lives a lots,now we can get news instantly from the Web,we can get almost all we want in the Internet,so we don't need to read the newspaper to get the news.

But some people still prefer to read newspaper and magazines rather than the Internet,they say that the quality of newspaper and magazine is better than Internet,it may be true.I guess that maybe they are used to reading the newspaper and magazine,they are not adapted to the Internet world,even though they have Internet-connected computers,they just don't think that the Internet can provide accurate news and information.But I trust the Internet,through the Internet,I can check the news or informatin through many posts and sites,therefor I can alway get accurate news and informatiin in the Internet.

Itp, I partially agree with you. I believe that, when we're talking about news, there's not much difference between the printed and the virtual versions of a newspaper (i.e., I'm sure the content of the Washignton Post is the same in it's paper version and on the website http://www.washingtonpost.com/).

On the other hand, when it comes to other sources of information, I confess I don't trust Internet that much. For example: if I'm doing a reasearch in order to write a paper, I'd rather look for information on books than on the Internet.

Books usually have been revised by, at least, one Editor; unfortunatelly, there's not such a thing as an editor on Internet....

ClarissaMach: How adorable your kid is!

It is ture that the newspaper and magazines are better-quality than the Internet,I agree with you for what you said that when coming to research some projects,the library still is a main tool to do them.You are a journalist ,so you need to read a wide of arrange resources of information ,you more likely trust printed materials than the Internet,if i do some researches ,I think I would like you to prefer the printed stuffs.

For those who want to get information quickly,browsing Internet is the best way to get them.As I already said in last post,I used to like to read newspaper and magazines ,just because I now don't have enough time ,so now I am used to surfing the Internet to get what I want,it is sure that browsing the Internet is the best and quickest way to get my needed information.

In order to get the news,I often go to the cnn.com and voanews.com.Through these years 'experience,I only found one mistake made by cnn.Last year,there was a mine collapse in the U.S ,the CNN reported that the ten of eleven miners were survived,but later the authority proved only one of eleven miners was survived ,the CNN immediately withdrew that article,afterward the wrong report was blamed for bad communication between the rescuers under the mine and the conductors on the ground.

Yes, i have not read newspaper for a long time.But my grandfather and grandmother they often read it.
some newspaper will like to read some newspaper which record some job-huntting information .in our hometown,whihc is a small country in Zhangzhou Fujian, China. not every family has its computer,so they still need newspaper.

Generally speaking , the reader of newspaper is descending,most of the young people such as us do not like reading newspaper.we often get information form internet.

Thanks for the compliment, Itp. You're very kind!

I couldn't agree with you more about the fact that, to get quicky information, there's no better place than Internet! Besides, considering we spend most of our time in front of the computer, be it at the office or at home, it's easier to read things on the screen than in a sheet of paper.
