Just after 7 years (from 8 to 17 years old) I can speak, write and read English perfectly and I can speak with all natives easily. But I don't owe my English to the hours that I spent over grammer books. I learnt English with always "speaking". Speaking must be your first helper key. Speak as much as you can, even if you speak wrong. Coz' you will have a habitant as speaking more clear and more clear day by day. Don't waste your times to memorize words, everyday read the news from English websites and everyday and try to understand them. Detect the words you don't know and find them from dictonary. Understand the function of this word inside the sentence and it will be eaiser go understand. If you are learning UK English, BBC will help you about pronunciation. Go to the English forums and chats rooms. Meet with people as much as you can. This will let you to see other types of English-speaking. That's all what I can say.
I always say, "Speaking is the biggest corner stone of English-learning"
Speak, speak and speak...
Have nice days all.... |

I agree with you. Sometimes students seem required to study grammar largely for its own sake, instead of focusing on USING the grammar to produce and understand spoken and written English! This certainly isn't true everywhere, but it happens.
I don't think I've known anyone (other than teachers of English and serious students of grammar) who could give a quick and complete definition of a "subordinating conjunction". But I've known lots of people who had no trouble USING one in their speech and writing. |
