Hi, guys.

You guys probably know Mary-Kate from the famous Olson Twins, right?
(Was she the one with a drug problem? I can't quite remember.)

Anyway, why is her name Mary-Kate? I mean did her parents decide to

name her Mary-Kate, because they couldn't pick one name or something?

Is there any particular reason?

It's just a different style of name. There are lots of common hyphenated names, like Mary-Ann or Peggy-Sue. They're pretty common in small Southern American towns.

And using the hypen shows that the first name is Mary-Kate, rather than first name Mary, middle name Kate, last name Olsen.

I just thought that it had something to do with their religious backgrounds or something. But I guess not. Anyway, thanks a lot, flying_pig319 and CP.
