It depends on what you want to learn thelanguage for. If you want to communicate with Germans, then learn German. If you want to communicate with a lot of people then learn English.

I think that English is very important. As I am not a native speaker of English, every time when I study in some classes that not of English Department, such as marketing, economics, HRM, and on and on...
I find that the most efficient way to learn and get the latest information is read English books and articles directly!! So cultivating myself the reading and writing abilities of English is very useful! Moreover, English, as everyone agrees, is an international language, so we would use it very frequently when discussing problems with someone and conducting business,etc. Well, the abilities of listening and speaking are essencial as well as the other two!

English!!important or not?? of course...hmm..yes...it's important. we can't deny that English is a worldwide language, so far, it's a very important "tool" for us to get close to this world, instead of waiting for translation, we can read the resourse all in English directly. English is never good enough for me, the more i learn, the more I need to know, I will never be as good as a native speaker. if I don't understand English, even a single word, I can't come here and discuss this problem with others. but I just hope myslef can use English as "normal" as Chinese, it's just fine to not to be perfect. I think English is important, no matter in study or in other fields.
I major in English Department, and I think my English is poor. When I read some literature articles, it is difficult to me because I have to look for new words frequently.
And I have lots of chances to talk to foreigners, and sometimes I think my vocabulary is not enough, and I can't express my words very clearly. At that time, I epecially know the importance of English.
