I thought 1 1/2 years = one and a half years, but I saw it was written as a year and half.

Which is correct?
What about 2 1/2 years?

You can say either. In conversation, "a year and a half" may be easier, and perhaps what you saw was the expression spoken by some character.

The same for a month and a half, a week and a half, a day and a half, an hour and a half, a minute and a half, a second and a half . . . .
