Aaaah, very wise, you are
I think our purpose on this planet is to enrich the lives of others, so that we can all make our (limited) time on this earth together as nice as we can (regardless of the fact that we won't remember it once we die, in my opinion).
This means ALL others, in an ongoing search for equality and world peace (in a broader sense) and smiles and friendship (in a smaller sense). _________________ peace-monger |

The reason of life is a very difficult question to answer ,however let's first focus on life, life is a gift from Heaven,we should treasure it everyday.
Picture this:ten of millions of sperms enter the vagina ,only one sperm conbined with ovum, our lives is the chance of one-ten of millions,so it must be the arrangement of God.You won the lottery, you live and you have a lot of opportunities to see the world.
I really don't know the reason of life, but I believe that life should be experienced and adventured,if you experience and adventure a lot of things throughout you lifetime, you would not regret youself for living on the world once. |

To procreate, I guess. But then, I'm not religious at all and not feeling particularly philosophical.
Actually, it'd be pretty boring if procreation was the only reason we're here. |

Yes, we are only cast away machines for the preservation of genes.
But while we are around, we have to see what best we can do with life - contribute to the world in our own little way and also be at peace with ourselves and others. |

It's all the stuff that leads to the procreation that makes life interesting. |

Life is a prolongation of species existance in this planet. But I cant stop thinking that theres a deeper purpose. |

It is what gives meaning to death. |

Life could be a recycling machine. One we have procreated we are done with and redundant.

Absolutely. Death doesn't have to mean an end either. |

A writer said, there's no reason for life, but you'll have to find one.So I think my reason for life is to find out how I should live. |

I once read that it is a Hindu Idea that when a man's children are grown, he should give away all his possessions and go on a journey.
I think it sounds like a good idea. |

Asterix, the idea is to come out of the worldly web and understand the meaning of life and ones true self. After childhood, youth/parenthood - after having experienced the stages of play, education, job, marriage, children, and responsibilities; after having gone through various struggles and difficulties, its time to calm down and sober down on life. One should give up attachment with possessions and relations and and take a figurative (if not literal) journey into oneself by way of contemplation and meditation. Going on a journey (to pilgrim places) can help one get detached.
Not that people really follow it. Indian men are too patriarchal to go give up power. |

Thanks for the explanation Anuradha.
I like the idea of taking it literally. I think it need not have anything to do with religion, but would still be a valuable thing to do in terms of spiritual development. |
