Dear Teachers,
1. A: Would you like a few minutes before I take your order?
B: No, Im just a meat and potatoes guy. So Ill have a filet mignon and a baked potato.
- Im just a meat and potatoes guy means Im the guy who just likes eating meat and potato, right?
2. Would you like your steak rare, medium, or well done? Or if you prefer, we can butterfly it for you.
- I remember butterfly is a noun, not a verb, right? If not, what does it mean here?
Thanks a lot to Teachers,

You butterfly a steak if you lay it flat on a board and cut it horizontally almost all the way through. then you open it up and lay it down flat to cook it. It's like opening a book and laying it face down on a table.
I think it's a Japanese idea originally.
You can't really butterfly a filet mignon, by the way, because then it is no longer a filet mignon.
A meat and potatoes kind of guy is someone who prefers plain food. |
