He never included them as being among the saved.

What does " the saved" mean?

Thank you

This probably came up in a religious context. Christians generally believe that a person must be saved from H e l l by believing in Jesus Christ and surrendering himself / herself to Jesus. The person is then said to be saved. Jesus is often called the savior.

If you are in an airport and someone comes up to and asks you if you have been saved / are saved, the reason is to get you to speak about religion. People who really, really believe in Christianity and saving and so on worry about other people who aren't saved, because they fear that those people will go to H e l l after they die. They divide the world into those who are saved and those who are not saved.

Just as the Muslims divide the world into those who believe as they do and everyong else -- the infidels (unfaithful).
