Kind is singular, kinds is plural. I have one kind of watch but several kinds of shirts. People make the mistake of saying "these kind of thing" instead of either "this kind of thing" or "these kinds of things," but you won't make that mistake.
Same rule for sort / sorts, type / types. These types of questions come up all sorts of ways.
Toward and towards are exactly the same word, but the American is more likely to say it without the "s," while the Brit is more likely to say it with the "s." Not always, but usually.
