.
Sure: such as.
A chance such as this comes along once in a lifetime.

Do I get a piece of your grade point average?

For some reason... that sounded strange to me...
Mr. Micawber, in your examples "such as" is followed by an object...
A chance such as this comes along once in a lifetime.
Planned GOP Budget Cuts Target Programs Such as Foster Care
A Country Such as This (Paperback) by James H. Webb
But Jason's example sounded strange without the object: We had hoped to give you a chance such as ? nobody else ever had.
I'm just curious, please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks. |

Nobody else ever had-- this seems to me to be a clause acting as object. Here are others:
I want a hat such as you are wearing. (you are wearing is the object)
Life, such as it is, is an educational experience. (it is is the object)
Here's one dictionary entry:
such as-- a. of the kind specified: A plan such as you propose will never succeed.
Another way of forming the original gapped sentence:
We had hoped to give you such a chance as nobody else ever had.
Frankly, the other three answers sound to me too strange to live, BourneNOIR.

Ah, thanks! Didn't realize that the clause could be the object. |
