ı am a new student in preparatory class.ı dont know where to use a gerund in a sentence.could you help me about it?and ı have a question,ı wrote it below


is doing gerund?
are others correct?

-they cant find any opportunity doing some activities.
-they cant find any opportunity to do some activities.
-they cant find any opportunity for doing soe activities.

A gerund, as you seem to know, is a noun made out of a verb. Just take the bare infinitive and add -ing to the end.

You can use a gerund like any other noun.

"Doing homework makes me happy." Doing is a gerund acting as the subject.

"His writing is getting better all the time." Writing is the subject. Always use the possessive when using a gerund this way; don't say, "Him writing is getting better all the time." Sometimes it's a little tricky when speaking.

"He really loves swimming." Swimming is the direct object.

"She likes to take an aspirin before sleeping." Sleeping is the object of the preposition.
