The sequence of activity is ever the transfer of the fourth and........
=============================================
I have known "a sequence of" must be used with "plural nouns". But
I have seen many sentences that really "a sequence of" is used with "singular nouns" on the Internet.(like this sentence; The sequence of activity is ever the transfer of the fourth and........)
So, I want to know why...
Really, Can "a sequence of" be used only with "plural nouns"? |

I'm sorry if I got you confused. I should have said that "a sequence of" and "a succession of" are used with both plural nouns and uncountable nouns. _________________ Mary W. Ng

| If so. Can "a sequence of" and "a succession of" be used with countable singular nouns? |

No. Within the phrase "the sequence of activity", "activity" is an uncountable noun. _________________ Mary W. Ng

I can understand that "activity" is a uncountable noun.
But I have seen much on the internet that "a sequence of" is used with "activities".
Can "activity" be used as a countable noun, too?
So, I am confused.. |

Within "a sequence of activity": "activity" is an uncountable noun.
Within "a sequence of actiivties", "activities" is a plural noun (a countable noun in plural).
Does that help? _________________ Mary W. Ng
