In the U.S. it's hard to remain pure culturally because there are so many different influences. Where I live, there are Chinese, Korean, Iranian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Japanese, and Indian neighborhoods all close by.
I can drive 5 miles and shop in a plaza where all the signs and 90% of the people are Chinese, 5 more miles and they are Mexican (Hispanic), 5 more and etc. It's a great place to live.
Personally I know two cultures very well: Mexican (Hispanic) and Chinese. Though I am not Chinese. And I am lucky to have a great deal of exposure to many different cultures.

But you know more about Chinese cuture than I do. that's why I feel very pleased to talk to you. mainly because you have no problem to get something subtle in Chinese cuture. and also because you always respect people and people's cutures. besides, you have a good sense of humor. that's the most important. |

One of the most unfortunate programs of the Communist Party in China was the "Cultural Revolution" (文革). It was more like a cultural sterilization or destruction.
A society should not be dislocated from it's philosophical and spiritual moorings. These things provide the underpinnings for what we value, how we show respect, how we maintain integrity, and so much of how we behave towards other people and other societies.
I have many friends (usually my age 46 years or younger) from Mainland China who know very little about ancient Chinese philosophy and literature. This is very unfortunate.
China is a huge ship to be without philosophical and spiritual moorings. The danger is that the worst of human nature will be brought forward with no values and ethics to restrain it's expression.
I am pleased to know there is a resurgence of interest in the ancient philosophies in China.
